The book is fairly real, sad, and shocking in its portrayal, while also being somewhat sympathetic to the parents as well though. I met her in person to discuss this book, and she also seemed to be a hell of a lot more forgiving of a person than I’ll ever be. She had this curiosity about her too, like the book

If you don’t have some one truly toxic in your life, it can be hard to believe. One of the reasons my friend and I are so close is because we both have abusive, narcissistic fathers and we understand the kind of “games” that they play. People from loving families just don’t get it.

A friend of mine and I saw the trailer last night. We looked at each other and said “NOPE.” She was homeschooled and isolated by her mother who had some pretty severe mental issues. I grew up in a rural southern baptist church with a mother who was a narcissist and used religion against me. Both of us grew up

I’m a little worried by how forgiving the trailer is

This preview is a little more cheerful than what I remember the book being.

As I have written before, my daughter died when she was five in 2011, two months after being diagnosed with an inoperable and malignant brain tumor. There is no cure for her type of tumor - DIPG - and current treatments do little more than extend life for a few months.

This entire Saudi trip is so bizarre and emblematic of everything that’s wrong with both the US and the Arab world:

Hahaha. I literally said to my husband tonight, “I swear to God, this kid better be fucking spectacular, because I am not going through all this for a mediocre baby.”

Lol. I’m one of those. We’re real but know it’s wisest to generally stfu about it.

I was 36 weeks with my first when I woke up feeling “funny.” Boom! Bells Palsy, the whole left side of my face was paralyzed. I had to tape my eye shut. Husband tried to make me feel better by saying I looked like a sexy, pregnant pirate (it didn’t help but god bless him for the effort).

I live in a constant state of “flabbergasted” at this point.

Ugh, I have a facebook acquaintance that I keep solely to see what the crazies are into these days, and she only uses a chiropractor as her family dr. I don’t mind if she’s crazy enough to do it for herself, but she uses the same theory for her 3 year old. It kills me that she doesn’t have an actual medical dr for her

THIS! Republicans can’t agree on anything so OF COURSE it’s the Dems fault because clearly there is something in the water or something stupid like that.

And always makes you CALL them Doctor.

I’m sure someone noticed everyone’s reactions and confusion and sent her an email.

She previously said Ofred wasn’t a feminist character, which is true. The work itself was feminist, but Offred had been fairly complicit beforehand, and even scoffed at her mom’s more feminist views.
