I think the biggest problem of the writing is that they handcuffed themselves to the Christian theology, angels, limbo, etc., and Anglo-Saxon mythology, such as leprechaun. If they are willing to explore, there could still be years of life in the show. But I doubt that.

That alone can not form a story arc. The bothers can not fight a god, just because of the gap in power, no to mention a god who knows them personally.
