General consensus? WTF are you talking about? Game is great. Well, perhaps combat system wasn't the best choice for modern RPG, but still game is a lot of fun. Fantastic atmosphere, very different from most Western RPGs.

TW1 major SPOILERS:

Actually TW1 combat was quite easy even on hard difficulty setting. There's great mod called Full Combat Rebalance, which I strongly recommend. Combat in TW2 is much easier, if you understand its rules like "don't let them surround you" or "know your weapon and use it properly".

Recharging health is a HUGE step backwards in FPS gameplay. Nobody using keyboard and mouse - this guy is stupid or he's just trolling. Gamepad is much worse controller than M+KB in both precision and speed.
