So basically the effect is the same. Maybe idea is good, but execution and aftermath definitely not - in the end everything is biased or screwed.

There were (an still are) plenty of adventure p'n'c games in Europe, especially in Germany. The genre died only for mass audience, who choose more action based games like FPS or action-adventure. The Walking Dead is an interactive movie, Quantic Dream style, far from true adventure, where the gameplay is much richer.

I wouldn't be surprised if I would see new EA games (like ME3) on Steam.

Sorry to hear that. I would recommend desktop PC to anybody who is a serious gamer: it's cheaper and you have CERTAINTY, that older games will run (not even mention about new ones). Best wishes to you and your girlfriend. :)
