I highly recommend the program Double Driver to back up installed drivers.

Win 7 used less ram than vista, and 8 reduced resource usage further.

I think you are forgetting the "Hot Corners." Just move your mouse to the lower left to toggle between desktop and start, upper left for recent metro apps, upper or lower right for charm bar.

Or if you have a rooted android (or your phone can to OTG stock) with USB host capabilities, you can buy a couple dollar micro-usb to full-size female usb adapter and plug in any external thumb drive you want. Or even a hard drive.

Same situation here. My Atom z520 netbook has roughly the power of a Pentium III, and the same graphics core as the iPhone 3gs... Frantically researching upgrade options.

I rock a custom Windows 8 gaming desktop at home and cheap Acer netbook (upgrading soon hopefully) at college. I mostly just use the netbook for paper writing and online homework while I have free time. Its only 3 pounds so its easy to keep in my backpack.
