I’d argue that Error 53 is the result of a faulty repair by a 3rd party - since those 3rd parties offered a service which they couldn’t reasonably complete.
But then Apple quickly released a software update and apologized for any inconvenience to customers as it was designed to be a check whether Touch ID works properly before the device leaves the factory.
Apple protects the fingerprint data using a Secure Enclave, which is uniquely paired to the Touch ID sensor. Allowing a third-party Touch ID sensor to work with your iPhone’s Secure Enclave is a huge security risk.
