@beekerstudios: The mob is a business like any other. They move their assets towards the greatest potential profit. Crime is a high overhead pursuit. Sometimes it's still profitable, and when it is, yeah they're involved somewhere. Most of the time it's not. Would they forgo profits in a non-criminal activity,

@cxi: "To build savings beyond that rather than paying off debt starts to become a losing game"

@vlatro: • Run a full *virtualized* OS and hack through it with a keyboard/Mouse switch and a few extra cables.

The best place to start is userscripts.org

@Bill Jaquette: It will depend on how close you are physically to the server you're connecting to. I'm still a bit faster with google, but it's likely different for others. I'll run google as my primary, open DNS as secondary, and keep my ISP as a fall-back.

I noticed some speed increase too.

$17 duct tape... I have a basement stocked with guns and MREs, but even I don't need designer nuclear grade duct tape.

@wunch: Wouldn't you just override that by setting the RAM manually? I suppose some lower end boards may not have a manual setting, but then couldn't you just clock it up?

The article makes some naive assumptions about casual users and power users. It's an antiquated view of how people actually use their machines.

I'll be getting out of my holiday gift obligations cheap thanks to this tip. A $3.00 bottle of Boon's Farm, an old worn-out pair of boxer shorts and a rubber band...

Good idea, but wouldn't it be easier to use magnetic knife holders ($8.00 for an 18" strip), then just use any cheap stainless steel jar?

@NorwoodIsMyHero: I agree, nothing will happen over night. Infustructure is needed, and we know the service will sit in beta for atleast 5 years after they open it to the public :)

@Webran61: May I ask who provided that VOIP service? Latency for voice is supposed to be under 350ms to be code complient. That was determined as the standard (it's on-par with current landlines) back when they began requiring 911 service.

Just so no one is misled, you can still make voice calls over a data only network, using VOIP services. I've heard others say a phone without voice is useless, but in reality, there's little difference in terms of what you can do with it.

Here's an easy trick to get the squares of 2 digit numbers in your head, in just a few seconds.

@kjf: Even the paid subscription content from the Wall Street Journal is widely available for free from countless other sources. They syndicated legally or otherwise through various outlets.
