Oligarch is certainly the more widely used of the two terms, probably for the reasons you just explained. I only prefer plutocrat for Trump because I think a lot of people voted for him because he’s rich and they think that wealth translates to some kind of worthiness, but mostly the I enjoy the whole underworld

I’m not. “Politicians” like Trump are the whole reason they wrote that song, just like they wrote like John the Revelator to rip on Bush.

Not oligarchs (rule of the few) but plutocrats (rule of the wealthiest). Mainly I like that term better because Pluto is Roman Hades, so he’s the god of hell as well as the god of wealth. It just seems more fitting for some reason that I can’t quite put my finger on.

Speaking of which, how is it Comey isn’t forced to make weekly on-camera updates about how he feels about the damage he’s done to the free world? I wonder who we contact about making that a thing.

Now playing

I feel like this is the correct Depeche Mode song to be the theme of the Trump administration:

So we should just send him to prison in the philippenes then! I’m sure no 74 year child molestor would have trouble coping with the prison system in a country run by a man who believes in solving problems with death squads.

Jesus Christ, thank you so much for heartbreakingly vivid imagery. I don’t understand how this child’s mother didn’t literally set this man on fire, because I think I would have.

As a white person with white friends, I support this argument. Favourite “didn’t really mean to be but still totally was” racist statement ever:

newspeak if you will. Its doubleplusgood.

I realize that is a problem. I think Obama was right about spending real time campaigning,  knocking on doors, talking face to face, building a dialogue, telling people what you stand for instead of just assuming that they know, asking people what they think you should stand for. I think there has to be a grass roots

So can we just label Assange an international cyber terrorist or something and storm the Ecuadorian embassy in London on the grounds that they’re using their status to plan and execute terrorist attacks and have violated some sort of embassy rule? I feel like the ensuing shit storm would be less damaging than letting

So he’s like a sociopath with information super powers? I guess it was only a matter of time before that was a thing.

I was being diplomatic to avoid starting an online screaming match.

Sure, but the stats say what exactly? There are places with higher percentages of violence per capita? The city of Hamilton comprises a massive region and many smaller boroughs like Waterdown and Ancaster that are culturally distinct from the city core. It’s the same reason Toronto’s always way down at the bottom of

I never said that everyone who lives in Hamilton is scum, it’d be pretty rich if I had considering that, as I said, I used to live there myself. I certainly never called you out as scum. Nor did I ever say that Hamilton was the worst or most or the only racist city in Canada. These are all things you chose to infer.

I honestly think the problem is that people don’t know what their own interests are. They’ve been fed some line of bullshit about the American dream and how anyone can be a millionaire if they just work hard enough, and now they need to learn that that is bullshit. I mean really learn, not just complain that they’re

When I read 1984, I couldn’t believe that people would ever behave that way. Now I know better. Orwell had greater insight into human nature than I could ever hope to have.

“We were always at war with Eastasia.”

I suppose you have a point, but on the other hand, as long as we hold that view, then we never will have another ally in the region. It would be nice to explore the idea of opening more doors in the area without a public panic attack, and I’m sure that it’s possible to do so without alienating Israel. I also wish

Agreed on the ADL, but how is his original statement not correct. It seems to me that the state of Israel is given far more consideration than it merits, particularly at the expense of other nations in the region. I’m not advocating turning away from Israel, but surely there could be more balance.
