When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit is worth reading as an adult. Aside from the detailed descriptions of the lives they lead in each place, it’s also very vivid and intense and it captures this pain children have when they were happy somewhere and then that is taken away from them.

Empathic can quickly cross over into codependence. Maybe this is the English person in me talking but I would let the friendship peter out. It sounds like you could both do with spending time with someone who might annoy you with thoughtlessness but who you won’t have to worry about if you are late sending a text.

Weirdly Kaitlyn Dever seems to look younger here than she did in Justified. Is she a Timelord?

“People should be less concerned about how a herpes diagnosis might effect their (future/potential/current) dating life and more concerned about how it will effect your confidence, your mental well-being and your normal, every day life. Sex and romantic relationships are way over rated. Learn to be real happy

Excellent post that reminded me of the old AV Club.

“In the rest of his essay, O’Brien lays out why he takes joke-theft accusations seriously and how the internet has made parallel thinking into a much bigger deal than it was in the past—he references a night when he, Jay Leno, and David Letterman all made the exact same Dane Quayle joke and “no one sued anyone”

I think people ignore the economic aspects of “beauty”. If the man or woman happens to be well-off or comfortable then they have time to eat well and exercise and the money for beauty treatments.

I was trying to explain why I think there’s a connection between dehumanising people, treating them like things and then people being capable of doing horrible things to others. To me anyone with empathy shouldn’t be capable of rape or murder.

Raping somebody is treating them like an object (to me). And I’m not attacking you or your response- just trying to point out that people will respond differently to it in a way that can’t be covered by a blanket statement. Which was all you did really by saying you thought the writing for Sansa worked.

Yeah, there’s still work to be done on “traditional” attitudes to half the world’s population, I think.......

It’s an empathy thing.

I don’t think she’s toying with him so much as feeling sorry for him but mileage always may vary.

Heh ;-) I’ve run across the term to describe characters in books that are not romantic but I’m tired so I can’t think of a good example.

Or he reads?

Context is everything in relationships. Their understanding was casual fun sex. Either way for either of them, contacting the other party at work is perhaps not the best idea.

Personally I wouldn’t take the risk. It seems to me he would have reached out if he wanted to and the downsides outweigh the risk of trying it. Also as someone who was asked out at work by someone I liked, it was still inappropriate and it actually put me off the dude because he knew it was inappropriate and wrote

I think anyone who acquires power and keeps it will inevitably be morally compromised.

Where I would diverge is that I would say it isn’t weak or moral failure to struggle after being treated like an object. I’m glad for the people who get tough afterwards. But anything horrible is going to produce complex emotional responses that differ from person to person.

Agreed and co-signed so much Chastain!

#NotAllVampirePuppetMusicals eh? ;-)
