I read The Mars Room so far this month. I really liked the book but I thought it was a weird choice not to stay completely with Romy’s point of view given the subject matter. I like how it highlights some of the obvious problems with the US justice system (the way the decks are stacked against poor people, the

Even as a kid I kind of wanted Samantha to leave Darren ;-) The dude was a real buzzkill.

I’m not sure that’s exactly how it went. I’m pretty sure he whipped it out and started whacking off safe in the knowledge there wasn’t too much the women concerned could actually do. And worse he and his manager seem to have tried to cover it up which affected the careers of the women concerned (and the Vice reporter

Those other examples don’t involve ignoring someone else’s consent at least. And loss of reputation isn’t considered punishment enough when a man on a lower income commits some sort of crime involving sexual harrassment/sexual assault......

Well that’s a great depressing example of what he was talking about then! ;-)

The AVC needs one hell of an angel investor to turn this ship around.

That’s not really what I would call community service ;-)

My point there is that there are unlikely to be any sort of consequences let alone justice, when people play down the effects of sexual harrassment and abuse. If it’s seen as no big deal for powerful men to harrass/assault someone so long as they are pulling in money then those same men are going to keep doing this

“Unfortunately, some people (definitely not you, and certainly not me) cannot handle open and frank discussion about these topics.”

Hey AVC, glad you asked ;-)

And the most striking aspect of that power is the fact these wealthy offenders get to do what a man with no money doesn’t and pick the terms of their own punishment and rehabilitation.

“Although it certainly wasn’t his intent, Louis CK kicked off a brand new conversation about the “redemption” of accused and admitted harassers and assaulters last month, barging back into the public consciousness with a surprise stand-up set at New York’s Comedy Cellar.”

It’s a complex issue and I fear my practice would not be as liberal as my theory. That said, I have no problem with Munn feeling uncomfortable with the situation and discussing it.

Just as a reaction to posts I’ve seen here/elsewhere, nobody is “responsible” for the depression/breakdown/mental health problems of an ex-partner. I think sometimes it’s easier for people to blame third parties than admit the person they cared about had an illness that still isn’t always understood properly/treated

I will look out for this, it sounds good.

If people see outright misogynistic posts/name calling on Twitter: please report it. It serves no-one for it to be okay to do this to people.

Nancy Drew in A Little Ontological Mystery I like to Call Life

SAME!

Hopefully Nancy would have the decency to be unnerved by the America Firsters......

Please watch “The Book Job” episode of The Simpsons for more on this. Aside from anything else it’s a shockingly good episode for mid to late stage Simpsons.
