The success of Ed Sheeran will forever remain a mystery to me.
Thank you! This article paints a reality in which sex workers are empowered liberated women expressing artist talent. That is the VAST MINORITY. I don’t understand what type of feminism stands up for an industry that supports rampant objectification, abuse, and harm of women- many of whom are actually underage victims…
Thank you. I sympathize with the hit to their livelihood as well but if you’re running your own business as these folks are, you have to be prepared.
My point was that it’s unlikely that Tumblr would suddenly shut a particular group of folks out that weren’t doing anything illegal or generally frowned upon so other freelancers shouldn’t really be worried about Tumblr censoring them based on the sex trafficking law.
You put it pretty strongly, but I think you’re right in the particulars:
I view sex workers as actual humans, just in a very precarious and perilous profession that sadly depends on 3rd party carriage of advertisement of services to work better than street walking. I’ve even done sex work myself when I was younger although I never tried to leverage it as a career or saw myself ever rising…
I suppose I just find it stupid that they are upset about Tumblr censoring adult content when they knew for months that the major websites were taking anything remotely pornographic off their sites for fear of being targeted by the new online sex trafficking laws. It just seems like a bizarre thing to complain about…
Another morally tone deaf, scientifically illiterate take on “sex work” from the so called feminist staff at Jezebel. Silent about the widespread evils of the sex trade, yet always offering an opinion when the fashionable, liberal idea that sex work = liberty is what’s under threat. That’s not feminism, it’s not…
I’m a Millenial, albeit in the upper echelons. I too have crushing student loan debt that I will be paying off for the rest of my life. You don’t need to have “the looks” to post your titties on the internet, either. It just seems like an easy way out. Anyone can do it. It’s not empowering, it’s a cop out. There are…
“Sex workers are some of the most adaptable people on earth.”
“We’re all going to be scrambling for new hustles.”
This will probably be in the greys perpetually, but...Really? This is what we are angry about? “Another setback for sex workers”. You mean teenagers in their bedrooms making questionable choices on the internet. Seriously.
Tumblr’s decision makes O’Neil feel unwelcome on a platform that she’s called home for a decade. “It sucks to be told you can no longer be a part of a community you’ve been in for years,” she said. But that is commonplace for sex workers
Mostly, Tumblr’s decision makes O’Neil feel unwelcome on a platform that she’s called home for a decade.
I don’t think you get it. It’s OK when Jezebel writers do it but it’s wrong when other writers do it.
Are American’s as a whole really to blame for this? Many other countries import, market, and show foreign films to mass audiences. None of that happens here and I’m thinking that’s more of a corporate decision than a social one. I’d happily watch foreign movies if I actually heard anything about them and they were…
I have declared my allegiance. So be it.
This just in: Babies don’t repair couples.
I know right ? Incredible, who knew ?
I appreciate that she is honest and you always hope that the two do whatever is in the best interest of their child.
