In general I am pro-butter, but I have to admit that recently I’ve been making grilled cheese with a mayonnaise and minced garlic blend. The bread gets crispy and the garlic flavor comes through well. But that particular recipe also has cream cheese in it, so it’s weird to begin with!

thanks for posting the links! emails sent.

This made me laugh because it is great but also because I live in Actively Pretending Their State is Perfect region of MA and people refer to northern ME as “the South of the North”

Oh that’s cool!

How I feel about this:

Yeah, it was something to do with the ages of the actresses—June Allison was in it IIRC

I’ve made them! I used to do it with kids as part of a summer camp I ran at Orchard House (the Little Women museum). The recipe we used included slicing the lime and stuffing the opening with salt before putting it into the brine. They’re interesting? YES THE FRIENDS EPISODE THANK YOU

Honestly I got very different things out of it as an adult than as a child, so probably. But also, Alcott wrote several works aimed at adults that I LOVE LOVE LOVE. Her books Work: A Story of Experience and Moods especially, so I’d recommend those in addition to LW :)

Yes-this feels like such insight into his mind. It’s fine to gas Jews, just not “innocent people”. UGH. I want to hit something.

I can’t speak to now, but in the 40s female war correspondents assigned to/associated with military units wore special designations to signify they were civilians/journalists. For Army war correspondents, they are also considered equivalent to a captain rank for bargaining reasons should enemy forces every kidnap

thanks, I haven’t read that one! I want to check it out now :)

Another is Dickey Chapelle, who covered WWII and Castro as well as Vietnam. She was actually killed in action while on patrol with a Marine unit in Vietnam in 1965. It focuses on the 40s so may be too early for you, but the book Women Who Wrote the War is EXCELLENT and I can’t recommend it enough.

accurate.

Over 100k in Boston! It was a powerful day, with some truly creative signs. I borrowed a 1903 suffrage slogan, which I think is still relevant. Also, cupcakes.

I’m sorry, that really sucks. At least by not firing her you have a chance to inform her? Sorry, that’s not much consolation :/

Thank you for this.

Thanks for sharing this! I am bad about remembering to look up radiolab regularly, but this will definitely be playing a role in my commute home :)
