Similarly to Ricky Gervais showing up as David Brent in the US version of The Office, merging the adaptation into the same cinematic universe as the original is a bit weird, because jeez, what are the odds of these characters’ lives being so incredibly similar to each other?! (Particular for The Office, where the US pi

I think you’re underestimating the amount of money they would have lost if they had called it The Kung-Fu Kid. That’s as good a reason as any. “Karate Kid” is fine imo; if we need an “artistic” explanation for it, we can just call it an “allusion” to the original film, or something. Plus they sorta lampshade the

Yeah, if that one joke is about as bad as the whole special gets, then this is a non-story. (i.e. a perfect fit for The A.V. Club.) It’s just run-of-the-mill dark humor; nobody is seriously gonna interpret it as condoning domestic violence or anything.

“Intent doesn’t matter” is one of the most deranged ideas to emerge from the Twittersphere in the past few years.

I’m not convinced getting a cut of the box office is even beneficial for actors most of the time—it wouldn’t be “extra money”; the estimated value would just be subtracted from their initial pay. In Vellani’s case, for example, she’s surely much better off for not having a provision like that in her contract. (For

Something similar has been happening to me for the past month, specifically on The A.V. Club and other G/O sites. Pretty much every time I visit, I’m redirected to a scam site pretending to be antivirus software or Spectrum or something. (Makes it impossible to read Zack’s old DS9 reviews!) Only happens on mobile

I mean it is true that the economy allows employers to pay writers much less than they “deserve” based on merit alone. I think all Zaslav means is that he doesn’t mind paying writers more than the bare minimum he can get away with, not that he thinks writers don’t deserve more than that bare minimum. (That’s not to

Zaslav is awful in many ways, but I think that when he said “overpaying”, he just meant “paying writers more than I absolutely need to” in an economic sense, not “paying writers more than what they deserve” in a moral sense.

A CinemaScore grade of B may not be really bad, but it’s definitely bad. Which sounds silly, I know, but ordinary moviegoers simply tend to grade high. (When my mom says “eh, I’d give it a B” after finishing a movie, that means she hated it.)

I feel kinda bad for Iman Vellani—the two MCU things she’s starred in have been major low points, profit-wise.

I wonder if they regret not calling it Captain Marvel 2. (Though I doubt a different title would’ve made that big of a difference.)

Sounds like a neat combo actually.

Dang, I was hoping Moe had finally gotten together with Helen Hunt.

Yeah if anything I feel like this premise screams sequel! Lots of new places it can be taken.

Carrie Coon <3333

When a show causes me to scream at my TV as often as that subplot does, I can’t not award it some points.

If I’m one of the three people on earth who actually loved the soapy Danny–Karen nonsense of seasons 2–3, will I like this?

To be fair, they did that with the TV spots for the first Doctor Strange, too, showing shots of Iron Man and the Hulk. But those were just TV spots, and this is an actual theatrical trailer...

Yeah pretty much every trailer Marvel drops makes me irrationally very excited for anything they make even when I know I shouldn’t be

I disagree but I’m giving you a star for having a hot take
