It's fine if the show is going with Gretchen having treatment-resistant depression, but I wish they'd mention some types of treatments that she's unsuccessfully tried. As someone mentioned in another comment, she doesn't seem like the type of person who would engage in healthy coping patterns. But the show doesn't

Yeah, I know that. And I'm not trying to say that someone with depression will feel better if they just start doing more stuff because there is more to it than that. But, with depression—and mental illness in general—there is a behavioral component. Research shows that gradually increasing the person's involvement

It's better than having, say, Jennifer Lawrence play her.

The women were TERRIBLY written. I hated it.

Only one line - "They won't get a sniff without me"

Any European period piece, actually. Les Miserables, for instance.

It's done with every ancient society and period piece set in Europe and it DRIVES ME CRAZY.

I have glasses and that trope has given me a serious complex about it.

"Single Ladies" just ripped off choreography from Bob Fosse, though.

Oh, he's definitely incompetent and it's not unreasonable. But it doesn't fix the inherent problem with the cops in their town, and the townspeople seem to think it did.

One thing I took away from this is that this season has been the townspeople trying to fix real problems in very shallow and surface ways that don't actually fix anything. For instance, in this episode the townspeople think they're dealing with the problem through canning Barbrady, when actually they ignored the real

I take Gretchen's approach as more like "Nothing will work so I'm not going to do anything." That response is pretty common in people who are depressed.

The issue is that Gretchen has no motivation or energy to engage in treatment, which is basically the conundrum of depression. She also seems to have the attitude that there's nothing she can do to make it better, which lowers her self-efficacy and makes her even less likely to seek out treatment. I do wish someone

In all fairness, in the music video she's a band geek.

I find it kind of strange that people are always bashing this song for this reason, but no one ever seems to mention "Sk8er Boi," which IMO is just as woman-hating. Or maybe they have and I didn't see it.

It's particularly frustrating for me to watch because Gretchen is doing the exact opposite of things that would help her depression. I know that it's her lack of motivation and energy, but lying around and doing nothing just makes it worse. And Jimmy, of course, isn't acting the least bit supportive or empathetic.

Not having bullets in it is pretty good means restriction, though.

I did like them addressing the "can't" vs. "won't." Gretch saying "I can't" is a great example of the inaccurate and dysfunctional cognitive patterns that people with depression are prone to (and which are thought to maintain depression).

We don't actually know that, though. I'd feel a lot better if they at least talked about her going to therapy, even if it's just like "I tried that and it didn't work." Also, I'd want to know what kind of therapies she's tried.

She didn't/doesn't seem manic at all to me. Maybe hypomanic. Anxiety would certainly cover her behavior, since she's basically dealing with her self-doubt through extreme avoidance or over-engaging.
