Once again, as someone who is actively involved in European business (including Italian business), i think i can pass judgement that you greatly overestimate how "clean" the Italians are. They're pretty shady, just a tad better than the Chinese, but barely.
Nothing can be as bad as how Ford raped Volvo of their technology and left them to rot. BLIS, EUCD (which was developed by Volvo), Ford D3/D4 platforms, etc are all taken from Volvo.
