One thing I could never understand about Wallace is how he says the purpose of writing is to "make you feel less alone."  (Relevant quotes: http://www.goodreads.com/au… I don't know what this "alone-ness" of which he speaks is.  I mean, I'm alone in my apartment right now, but when I go outside there are people, many

I always thought that when Haymer offers Mal a reward for bringing "Yolanda" back, Mal should have said, "Well, if you really insist on showing your appreciation, you could let me have this awfully nice antique laser pistol."

I agree.

Was watching "Wall Street" last night.  Is Bud Fox a "self-made man"?  He "had what it takes to get into [Gekko's] office," but after that, Gekko helps him a hell of a lot.  Bud's path to success was to latch onto a bigger fish.  Yet I don't doubt that right now, thousands of finance millionaires whose life

I like these articles better when they're not about some classic like this one or The Chocolate War, but instead are about modern YA ephemera with the love triangles between the blank girl and the two suitors who worship her, and the bizarre and impractical dystopia where the whole society is organized around some

58,400 days takes us to 1852, before the Republican Party existed, and anyway I'll be damned if I'm going to stand aside and let you slander their first presidential candidate John C. Fremont.  Also their second, some guy named Lincoln, seems to have been all right.

Don quit in the 1st episode, and it's been, what? a year of show-time, and he's still around?  That is the worst job of quitting I've ever seen.

"The problem is that the episode the crew puts on isn’t strictly news in any real sense of the term… It’s basically another screed against Republicans"

This is a little off-topic, but I would kill Lydia, if I were Mike-Jesse-Walt.  She's bad news.  But then again, most times when I'd have killed a guy, and Walt-Jesse didn't, they were eventually proven right.  If it'd been me, I'd have wasted Hector Salamanca right after shooting Tuco in season 2.  But they didn't,
