I only found one instance of broken pliers on Amazon's customer pictures. I have three of them, both the original version and the newer, with the non-serrated blade. I use them intensively and never broke a plier.
Yes! I have one at work, one EDC and one in the car. I tried many multitools and the Skeletool CX is bested them all.

I get it, but what I don't understand is why, after ROV's are the norm in this kind of expeditions, someone would spend such a large amount of money to bring crew and tourists down there.

Not really, research and machines are my fields, but I don't see as many daily use technologies that sprawl from going to the Challenger Depth on manned vehicles. I'd rather use ROVs.
