because it's Lenovo's line for home users. Lenovo makes ThinkPads/ThinkCentres/ThinkPad tablets, and they came up with the IdeaPad/IdeaCentre line.

There are IdeaPad notebooks, IdeaCentre desktops and now, IdeaPad tablets.

the US have a sales tax that varies from city to city, so the prices advertised are pre-tax. on the other hand, the Canadian prices are post-tax.

most likely the taxes are included in the price. plus, Canada (and most of the world, BTW) has universal healthcare.
