Apparently the movie has already been paying dividends with its prior releases in France and Korea well beyond its budget, which makes it easier for the director to stick to his guns. I heard (from my Korean wife) that there was an argument between American distributors and the director over a few scenes in the movie. The distributors wanted to remove a particular scene and the director wasn't willing to release the edited version. I've managed to see it and it's pretty good.

Planes rarely stand still, as they are only profitable when they are flying. A flight to Brazil might change pilots and crew, then continue on to Chile, and return to Brazil before flying back to the U.S. That's my guess. My wife used to be in the business, albeit on a different continent.
