I think it’s less about the farting and more about the obviousness of it. When I have to fart around people, I usually do so discreetly. Lifting oneself out of a chair and forcing out a loud fart is rude and frankly disgusting. Feel free to do that at home, but show a bit of respect for those around you in public.
