I mean shout out to the person that claimed that black people have no culture and lamented about what we teach our kids. Uh I am sorry but who do all the white people in this country spend most of their time and money trying to emulate and look like? I mean you don’t want to go there Pete. Oh make sure when you aren’t

At this very moment Trump is having post office boxes in left-leaning areas removed and destroyed. He’s destroying USPS’s mail-sorting machines and his flimsy reasoning was that they’re “too expensive.” Something that’s already paid for and working is somehow to expensive.

What I legitimately do not get is that nearly all of the criticisms of Kamala Harris are based on her past as a prosecutor and all of the concerns, critiques, memes, rage-Tweets and so on are based on that history (which was mixed, she did some bad things and some good things as well), but the Biden/Harris criminal

Have you considered that in light of how important this election is the rest of us just don’t really give a shit if you feel conflicted or not about it? He’s not the first (or second, or third, or fourth) choice for a lot of us but we haven’t spent the last 6 months crying about it.

Zzzzzzzzz. You are such a fucking bore.

Exactly. Politics is a job. It’s great when an inspiring candidate comes along that grabs the public’s imagination. But even they get stuck doing the job.

Exactly this. I am tired of Democrats holding themselves up to an extremely high standard when Republicans literally never cease to keep lowering the bar. This is not the time for infighting. She’s the Veep. Biden is the nom. He’s sure as hell not my choice but I’m going to put my ballot in the mail the day I get it.

I think one piece of the problem is hoping to feel excited or inspired by politics on an ongoing basis. It’s fantastic that as a first time voter you felt so inspired, but maybe that was more about the first time than the vote, know what I mean? Do you feel inspired by upholding your other civic responsibilities? Get

No good reason to think that’s Ashley’s goal tho. She seems to be out here doing her best as she sees it. But the whole framing of political writing on Jez is off - they cover pols like any other celeb: do we love her? Hate her? (in this case neither, but still framed in those terms). Researching and reporting on

I can’t muster a ton of excitement about the announcement because it seemed like a foregone conclusion months ago. It’s like Biden spent months trying to drum up buzz for an announcement that was just like “Yes, we already knew.”

Another thought: Ashley is so smart. But some of her political writing reminds me of all those Psychology Today articles about “how to know you’re a narcissist.” Especially the part about putting people on a pedestal until they reveal any flaw that conflicts with your own ideal, then trashing them as a traitor.

This is one of the better articles I’ve seen on people’s mixed feelings on supporting Kamala, but it still feel misses the mark in some regards. I think for some having mixed feelings for Kamala makes sense and I’m not going to try to say that someone shouldn’t have a mixed or negative opinion about her in a

Anything to depress the vote. Trump is a literal fucking fascist but eh...we’re not super excited about the Dem choice. So, you know, guess we’ll stay home and watch the downfall of America.

I am not in a bad mood and this annoyed me as well. This is not the time to look for the absolutely perfect candidate. This is near-literal do or die time.

Respect your right to speak your truth. But you will find for a lot of black women like me it is all pride. No ambivalence or mixed feelings here. The problem with articles like this is with your platform this is amplified like it is the general feeling. Meanwhile my friends and I are bingeing on the joy of this

I like this comment. Why does Kamala have to be perfect for this to be inspiring? She is far from perfect, which puts her in the company of exactly every politician ever. Still something to cheer.

I think it’s time Jezebel starts specifying which articles are opinion/commentary pieces and what’s a news story based on fact. This just came out like a diary entry of how the author feels about the media & public’s reaction to the VP process and not realizing they’re just feeding into it. VP’s historically don’t

I am so tired of these stupid purity tests that are specifically targeted at women candidates. If you want Trump and friends to kill more Americans, then just say it alrrady.

There are no perfect candidates, just like there are no perfect people. Sen. Harris is a brilliant, accomplished woman of color. Her selection is an acknowledgement of the importance of Black Women to the Democratic party and to this country. Let’s rejoice! Don’t let the trolls get you down.

I’m sorry. Maybe I’m in a bad mood (in fact I know I am), but what even is this about? I don’t understand how, as a Black woman, you can’t be completely excited about her nomination. I am a Black millennial who cried actual tears (!) when I voted for Obama in 2009 because I never thought I would see a viable, Black
