I wrote a little thing about the benefits of being late to play this generation of games (and why it makes the decision about buying a next-gen system easy). If you're interested: http://vertigokidd.kinja.com/the-benefits-o…

It seems to me that what we're seeing is the slow morphing of gaming consoles into more general "entertainment devices", which aren't meant to cater to gamers but appeal to a wider audience of people who maybe game only casually. The age of the devoted, big-budget gaming machine is definitely going by the wayside, and

This is really interesting, as I normally restrict myself from looking up game hints on the web when I get stuck like this. Do kids today not see the value in figuring it out for themselves?

But... Johnny Five is alive!

Oh, so the "U" stands for "Upgrayedd!" I get it!

I wonder if the problem with this SimCity is not that it is so flawed, but that it has been more closely scrutinized than any other before it. Maybe these kinds of simulation issues always existed. We just didn't have such a large echo chamber of nitpickers back then that we do today.

That is an amazing project. But I think the coolest discovery this guy made was the fact that Mario is always invincible if he is moving down. Did anyone else know that before?

Agreed, but just because Disney shut down LucasArts doesn't mean a game like this won't ever come out. The company seems to be planning on licensing out these kinds of games to developers in the future. If they choose well, there's a good chance those potential devs could do a much better job of making a FPS Star Wars

It's nice to see the Kotaku community see eye to eye on the things that really matter. It restores my faith in humanity, especially after seeing comments like the ones in this video.

Just take the photo already! *arrrrgh*

So now that everything seems to be fixed in this game, what's the general consensus? I'm still happily playing SimCity 4 on a very old laptop and am wondering if this is a game worth getting when I upgrade.

As classic as ever.

Why can't everything just stay the same?.... :(

I don't even want an offline version of this game anymore. With all the issues it's been having since the launch and the simplistic way it simulates traffic, an imaginary "offline mode" wouldn't change the fact that it's a bad game.

Ha! I didn't notice that until now. Makes perfect sense the way I've been following this story for the past few days.

"In a single 24 hour period, there were more than 38 million buildings plopped down, nearly 7 and a half million kilometers of roads laid down, 18+ million fires started and (my favorite fact) over 40 million pipes filled up with poop."

I'm always surprised by how good Nintendo is at knowing what people want before even they themselves do. The company is a lot like Apple in that way, though not nearly as profitable, but has achieved essentially the same feat, very quietly carving out a core fan base over the years. Sure, their hardware is not always

It's cute. You gotta remember this is something like the fourth or fifth generation of Star Wars fans now, who grew up thinking of the prequels as the original trilogy and the actual original trilogy as the vintage ones. The tone of this show is totally in line with the latest generation of the universe, and I bet

Back in the 90s, my dad decided he wanted to go all out on a home theater system, so he took the family to some now defunct A/V specialty store (all I can remember was their "all-black" theme) to check out their setups. Those guys were real scammers back then — this was during the days of Web 1.0 remember. Anyway, he
