Except that's a calico! Calicos > Torties...

Ah, see, my cats used to herd our German shepherd/collie mix. I think that brings balance to the universe, or something.

Calling Tech Support

I got kitty cat on my lap! Meow-meow kitty kitty meow-meow!

I love you.

Part Ginger Cat, part Black Cat, huh? WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO BREED THAT???

That's a whole different kind of Genetic Engineering.

My tortie smugly approves of her uniqueness.

Try telling that to my Border Collie. She has cat herding down to a slightly muddled science. The kitties don't think much of it though.

Yuuup, Splotchy always knew she was sumptin' special ^_^.

I will grab the Red Gene and shake it into a kitten.

In the future, all sensitive transactions will have the user's identity verified by a scan of the anauthorized tortie kitty he carries in his briefcase/cat carrier; the one thing that cannot be cloned or counterfeited.

I now miss my torti. Thanks a lot, io9!! *sniff*

The article is also talking about only 1 method of cloning though, which involves growing a single cell into a complete being. By logic this method could never clone a tortoiseshell, but that's not the only way to do things.

From what the article says, there is no way to ensure that a cloned cat would have the same pattern as the original. SO yeah, there are things we can't ever do.

That's not really true.

Oh, and here is half the comments on this post I am sure.

I'm glad io9 has finally done this article so I can just refer to it whenever anyone asks about my avatar.

See, this is why it is impossible to herd cats effectively. Even their DNA won't toe the line.

If there's one thing I've learned on io9, it's that Evil Torties are Evil. But that's still a coupla cute kitties. Plus: SCIENCE!
