Seems they shoulda scrambled some helicopters the minute the thing got loose. Couldn’t a Coastie or SEAL rappel out of an HH-65 and wrangle this thing back under control?
But what do I know? I don’t work for The Gummint.

Probably because the Landys aren’t as hideous, I’m guessing.
Yes! It’s awesome! When I see one with a white roof I think of a future Mini that’s just gone bonkers-huge. I love it.
Infiniti’s QX80 thing is far more hideous, IMO. It’s comes pre-installed with Pep Boys trim!
I dunno about “literally zero people”. This happened here near Seattle about ten years ago. A guy from Kent or Auburn or similar drove his Bronco or K-5 Blazer onto the roof of his condemned house. He made the papers - the photo was pretty impressive. The reporter made sure to mention that the man was drinking a beer…
See also current Infiniti catalog. Horrid. “Q ALL THE THINGS!”
Agreed. The rear wheels are pretty remarkable, but the rest of it is a red hot mess.
While not televised, endurocross is going off in Everett, WA tonight at Xfinity Arena. Doors at 6:30.
Like rallycross (or motorsport in general) would be so environmentally sound if not for pesky VW?
Raked windshield and the vague hint of the headlamp shape says “Prius” to me.
Check out Red Bull Rampage on Friday morning. I think you’ll enjoy what you see happen there.
Just be sorry that it’s “OH-hi”, not “oh-HI!”.
I’ve thought this for years. I grew up in Ventura County and navigated this road many, many times. Even encountered a Lambo LM002 about Matilija once. I also rode my mountain bike down it from Rose Valley to downtown Ojai.
I can smell the must and off-gassing plastics from here. CP.
That math might work out - and I have thought about it a bit lately - but to me the Sprinter offers a two features that vehicles that came before it do not: a true high roof, and substantially superior fuel economy. You just don’t get that out of an American cargo- or work-van from the 80s or 90s.
Any Metris news in the pipeline from this trip? I test drove one thinking I could use it as a the basis for a modern Vanagon Weekender/Westy, but came up short. I wonder what you found. If Sportsmobile is putting their mitts on one, there might be better results to be had.
Definitely last weekend when I got to surf some dirt waves up in the Cascade Range. YouTube link.
I certainly do. This is obscure and nerdy as hell. I love it.
I’ve found an expert witness to corroborate your story...
I just checked most of the boxes on the Benz website and didn’t even approach $45K. The dealer in Seattle just received 2 - a cargo van and a passenger model - and I am going to test ‘em out this weekend. Pretty excited.
