I owned a ‘73 Austin Mini in the states and I adapted to left hand shifting in about 20 minutes into the first drive.

I think the cyclecars of old have parallels to the electric scooters of today. Single occupant/rider going a moderate distance for cheap -ish. But, when the cyclecar was introduced, the definition of a ‘real’ car didn’t exist. We’re judging it by the standards of all that came afterwards.
