I bring up intent because as legal for the companies as all this was, without the knowledge of intent, they currently look like the bad guy.
Before I start, let me restate that the premise here is that the man did not intend to ‘bootleg’ and instead was selling effectively ‘fanart’.
I will then posit a question I posted elsewhere here: what is the difference between what this man did, and say, I took the same two figure parts and NOT stuck them together, and THEN sold them. Just two plastic parts in a mailing bag.
It’s exactly the same thing with anime figurines. It sucks that you can’t resell them
if you bought a broken 80's transformers jetfire, and a broken 80's macross super valkyrie (same figure mold) and then combined the good parts into some sort of Macross-Transformers hybrid, and then sold it, that would be illegal because you don’t have the rights to sell a Macross-Transformers hybrid toy
(Before I start, I posted here that I wanted clarification on whether or not the man was trying to pass them off as legit, of which THAT is a crime and would let the story make sense. BUT, nothing, not even Bashcraft, seems to confirm that that’s what actually happened.)
Body swap kitbash isn’t the crime - selling a body swap kitbash is
That’s what I wanted clarification on, but even Bashcraft couldn’t answer that straight. Was the guy straight up selling them passing them off as “real” merchandise?? Or was he simply arrested for selling “modded” figures. One is understandably a crime, the other is a just selling ‘used’ items that happen to be…
That just sounds unreal in that context.
Wait wait, Bash, you gotta clarify; is this bootlegging or was he arrested for kitbashing?? I’m assuming this is straight up a form of bootlegging but the way this is written out it almost seems like the guy was arrested for “body swap kitbash”, which, I’m seriously hoping isn’t an actual crime in Japan. Because…
I like that the bearded dragon didn’t go with the easy Lizardman cosplay and went for a different SC character. Expert cosplayers can make that shit work.
It might have been a bit too immersive because Taka said he threw up while playing Ace Combat 7 in VR mode.
Fair enough. With that said, there probably was a better way to refer to Pikachu’s coffee drinking without resorting to a cheap fart joke.
I think it’s more of the fact that it’s not a very GOOD fart joke; really just sounds like they let Ryan Reynolds say anything and kept what ever worked. It feels terribly forced and wings you with a “Pikachu drinks coffee??” quandary.

Kondo’s scares me the most. Look at her. Not a hint of malice. As if Sasuke was just a stain on the wall that needed cleaning.
A manga hotel you say?
My brain went to this gem:
The problem with acts like these is that unintentional ignorance is still ignorance; a sensible solution being an increase in awareness/education of other cultures. And from what I understand... not exactly a priority in Japan. Unless things have changed??
