I had a 99 sedan. They were reliable if you stayed on top of oil changes. But if you didn’t, lunched turbo.

I absolutely guarantee there are dozens of hidden issues with this thing. As soon as you fix one, another pops up, then another, and next thing you know you’re $10k in the hole. CP.

I’ll Beetle one to say no. The Golf between what it needs and what I can do is a big Thing

The K13 Nissan Micra sold like crazy in Canada. Essentially a barebones, no nonsense car that’s fun to drive. Granted, most people bought the middle tier (myself included) but the base model for 10k CAD sold quite well. Check out the Micra Cup.

Let me introduce to you the Camry L. I sold Toyotas a pair of times, both times at the largest, best selling Toyota dealership in utah. Between the two times I saw a grand total of 3 Camry Ls. Two of them were special ordered for fleet use, the other one was on the lot and it sat and sat and sat and sat until another

Except “now you can get a cheaper basic car” isn’t how it’s going to play out. An ultra-basic model will theoretically exist, but no dealers will order it, it’ll be a pain to get, and the moderately-equipped stuff we’re used to will be marked up.

When I was a kid, my parents traded in their K-car for a Merkur XR4Ti.

Yup. It was a full time system that actually worked reliably.

To be fair the bravada did have a Smart Trak AWD system instead of the more conventional 4x4 system of chevy and GMC’s.  But the statement is still a stretch.

I read this site on a regular basis even though I currently do not own a car and have not owned one in many years. It’s a testament to the quality of writing and even more so, the approach to the subject matter that the site has taken under your stewardship. Best of luck to you in your future travels; your best work

I can’t help but feel like you were shielding Jalopnik from the wave of “content for the sake of content” that G/O Media wanted to push. You’re right. I’m not here for lists. None of us are.

I was wondering when all the crap that has gone down on sister sites was gonna creep in here.

I’m going to miss you terribly, Patrick. Thanks for the help you’ve given me.

Wasn't the Volt GMs answer to the Prius.

C’mon Veeg. Now you’re just punching down.:)

How do you explain the recent success of German cars?

I just wanna say, pushin this to the top of the feed is braver than the troops.

Tim Horton was a hockey player, so I guess this is the new definition of “sticking to sports.”

Shit is getting real, isn’t it?
