I replaced the transmission in a ‘64 VW Bus without knowing what I was doing. I still have the expensive wrench I had to buy for the huge nuts on the end of the axles. It worked, but never again. Anyone need a wrench?

There are sites online where you can list your vehicle and hope someone is interested enough to take possession and pick up the payments where you left off. I know people who have acquired vehicles this way, but none that got rid of one this way, so there is probably a downside to using this way out.
