EV’s are really well suited for this run. It’s short, so battery capacity is less of an issue. It has many very slow speed turns followed by straights, so the very wide powerband is a huge advantage. They also don’t need to compress the thin air into the engine/motor which also benefits them.

But that’s the same thing. It’s like taking an airship, which can be easily brought down by winds over 15mph, and equipping it with a fancy safety system that won’t let it take off/force to land, when winds are above 15mph. Yes, someone is less likely to be killed by the second system, but it’s still a useless form of

Now that, from the POV of the invading force, would make an awesome episode. I think something like that’s been done once or twice, but no reason why it shouldn’t be done again.

Partly I’m sure because transporters are ridiculously unreliable. While they mostly manage not to kill the people they are transporting (ignoring the whole copies thing) they managed to get blocked by 18 different kinds of exotic energies, fields, weird ores, weather patterns, etc.

I had a theory about star treck, that had to do with transporters. First 2 strange points. Replicators and holodecks. Replicators make food, but they dont summon it out of thin air, instead they use a stash of some make anything material and they turn into whatever on request. Which is a cool technology. But why

Agreed, they are adding a heat/pressure scavenging system to the exhaust and an electric compressor to the intake. It looks sort of like a turbo charger, but should work equally well without the compressor at all. If understand correctly, it should allow them something close to the efficiency of a turbocharged engine,

Really? Do you find people cross shop vehicles with wildly different price points often? Or do they compare similarly priced vehicles from different manufacturers? Ever see people buy an expensive accessory that’s priced in with a vehicle purchase that they would not buy as a stand alone?

If I’m shopping for a regular truck, with your prices, the F150 is a 40% more expensive than the Ranger. The Raptor F150 is 18% more expensive than the Raptor Ranger.

I agree. The difficulty in maneuvering is my number 1 complaint against today’s full size trucks. But the attitude of “bigger is better” is pretty strongly ingrained in people, as can be seen by the ever increasing manufacturers badge on the front grill.

And here I was thinking that the assembly line was surprisingly light on automation

I doubt we’ll see it since it would canibilize f150 raptor sales. It’s unlikely to be significantly cheaper, but it would be slower.

Do you really think that classic car owners can out-lobby the transportation sector?

The kind of people who want to mark “drove a Veyron” off their list?

Agreed 100%. I can’t understand why they are taking one a second, extremely difficult problem that others already know how to solve on top of what is already an incredibly difficult problem (software).

There is no way anyone can head a large business and not be accused or treating someone like crap. That’s not a defense of B/M/T, just that if you interact with enough people, some are bound to talk badly of you.

I eagerly await the day when semi autonomous driver aids become good enough that stories like this become an example of how unbelievably strange things used to be in the old days, much like we wonder at stories that starting a car ran the risk of breaking a the drivers hands.

I strongly suspect that the second tweet (“i bet you a dollar”) is a legal defense tactic. The original (extremely dumb) accusation might be thought of as slander/libel, but can be defended against as saying “I didn’t literally mean that, I don’t know that, I’m just using the term as an insult”. The second tweet

I don't think we're going to see 480 in people's houses.

I think up to now this was used on a small sample of drivers as a trial program. At least that's how I understood the article. If the program cost is low, I don't see how this isn't a good thing (assuming it's well implemented of course. With you on the terror checklist thing)

Is this a very trafficked 2 miles? I cycle a great deal, and rarely find traffic do be much of a hinderence/danger.
