I frequent tdiclub.com. The VW TDI has a intensely loyal and dedicated fan base as it is [arguably] the most fuel efficient vehicle available in the states. The entire message board is filled with two very different types of people:

Performance and fuel economy are not synonymous. I'm sure some gains can be made from ram air—just not for fuel economy. The Prius IS designed for highway driving, if there was a way to squeeze a few extra MPG out of one, rest assured they would have done so. Even given the questionable assumption ram air would

No one suggested mileage would approach infinity. Mileage for most cars, DubiousNature's excluded, is best in top gear, at roughly 50MPH. My daily driver (VW TDI) gets about 70MPG at 50—but that's not an achievable number due to traffic and higher speed limits—not to mention patience. I average about 45MPG in mixed

I'm going to go ahead and call BS on this. It is not possible to overcome an exponential increase in wind resistance.

My coworkers Z51 Vette does the same mileage as yours—it almost idles at 65MPH in 6th gear.

She's missing her free government scooter. Socialism FAIL.

I believed you until I checked the specs:

The argument that a 60MPG vehicle needs to be a death defying shitbox is growing tiresome. My ten year old VW TDI gets 50MPG on the road, at close to 80MPH. This is without start/stop or hybrid technologies.

I think it's obvious what happened here.

Playstation mounted in (not under) the passenger seat? Not a good idea after you eat his mother's chorizo.

This happened in San Jose as well, by an Acura. I don't believe they ever caught the offender.

An unlikely benefit of $5 or $6 dollar gas—many of these Hummers will 'spontaneously combust' with owners like this tool.

I'm shocked to hear myself say it, but that interior is awesome. Exterior is much improved, but as said elsewhere, the New Beetle has a long way to go to overcome the flower vase stigma.

assuming that gays make up 10% of the general population, you'd effectively cut out 45%. That figure doesn't correct for the lesbians who would never be caught in anything less effeminate than a Subaru Forester.

Eat beans for hybrid power boost!

yeah, that's the setting I use. I still want "Forest Air." Also waiting for the supermodel/ bikini function.

GPS, naturally.

I like it. I cannot stand having a few vents blasting hot/ cold air in a specific direction.

No argument there. My point was more that a heavy duty vehicle—such as the ubiquitous rich kid's F250 lifted diesel is much more drivable with 30" wheels/tires than is the 1996 Oldsmobile Aurora I see regularly with the same idiotic over sized donk-wheels.

I think trucks with big lifts and monster tires are nearly as idiotic as a donk—but at least they are robust vehicles designed to carry heavy loads.
