Scenes do have purpose, no one is saying that. Saying that a scene’s role is exposition is a fucking tired, sad understanding of art.

Perhaps the worst, dumbest thing in that entire thread is when she provides her definition of a “scene”: “a scene explains something”.

How do you know if everyone watches superhero movies?  They’re the only thing on!

How do you know someone watches superhero movies?  Because it’s the only thing they can talk about.

Someone saying that in their opinion the ending sucked, while providing zero details, isn’t exactly a spoiler.

only hater”

agnok *definitely* thinks he’s special.

You don’t have to pay attention right now.

Tarantino has another long, sentimental film in his canon of work, and that’s ‘Jackie Brown’. In that film it was Pam Greer and Robert Forester who provided the mood of characters now past their prime and looking at an uncertain future.

Oh, there was plenty of negative reaction to Basterds, too.

I’ve been looking forward to this. Lately I’m burned out on sci-fi/superhero movies. Don’t worry...that won’t last! But have been wanting something different.

This has gotten me shouted down around here in the past but I’ll say it again: Carpenter is a hack.”

Carpenter is, like, 50% great, and I’m saying that as someone who thinks “The Thing” is pretty close to perfect cinema in its genre. He is not one of those directors where you see his worse shit and think, “This is a master fucking up.” You think, “This guy directed ‘The Thing’?”

Because honest criticism would seem to call for it?

Don’t get me wrong - watching this film anywhere on the “as balls-shit-fuck” highness continuum is a fine way to watch, just putting in the word that square nerds like me can and do enjoy it too.

Fuck is definitely the top end of the high scale and a place not everyone is willing to go, fortunately one can also be high as shit or even high as balls and still enjoy the film.

Just to provide a counter-balance to a common theme I see in many Mandy reviews/write ups - I was not “high as fuck” when I saw Mandy, but still loved it.

Most of the pieces are there in Baby Driver but yeah, as I was watching it just wasn’t fully grabbing me, and then the end shat the bed. I have some issues with Scott Pilgrim as well, although part of that comes down to Cera (who in his favor makes Ansel Ensort look like Charles Bronson) and part of it comes down to

Did you not understand the point of several of the Captain America movies? Or you just didn’t see them?

Can you honestly say that Captain America, as portrayed in the majority of the MCU movies, is nothing but a bit of rah-rah America-is-always-right jingoism? He spends most of the second movie on the run *from* his own government, which he proves has been infiltrated by the descendants of Nazi-like villains.
