FYI from Wikipedia:

So you’d prefer English actors speaking English in Russian accents to make a show set in the USSR with Russian people being the subject as more immersive?

You put out a list of nitpicky bullshit complaints saying that “undercuts” the show, and I’m the aggressor?

I think in terms of range it’s easier for the actors to deliver their lines with the appropriate emotional weight/delivery if they’re not also having to worry about what that would sound like in a different accent, and thus are able to give a better performance.

They wouldn’t have all spoke Russian with the same accent, either, given that the USSR was such a massive, multi ethnic country. Beria and Stalin were Georgian, Mikoyan was Armenian, Kaganovich, Voroshilov, and Moskalenko were all from Ukraine, and even among the Russians you’d have had differences, based on class,

Wait, you want English with a Russian accent?  Why not demand true authenticity and get Russians speaking Russian with English subtitles?  Heavily-accented English (real or fake) just sounds off, regardless.

The icons of the stagnation of Soviet socialism doesn’t remind you it is taking place in the Soviet union?

Every single acting performance on the show has been outstanding, and you’re complaining that they didn’t use actual Russians for a British/American joint production?

I agree. I think Death of Stalin was brilliant in having the actors not change their accents at all, so you had American and British accents coming from people who were playing Russians, but it didn’t matter because Russians wouldn’t be speaking English with Russian accents anyway.

I’d rather the actors speak in their native accents than try to force a Russian accent ala Sean Connery and Harrison Ford as their respective Soviet sub commanders.

Personally, I like that they’re not faking Russian accents, since it usually comes across as cartoonist. I suppose Russian actors would have been a good idea, but, then you have to find enough that can speak English well enough to really pull off all the parts.
