auto-builder is gone because builders no longer “queue” up constructions over multiple turns.  They have a limited count of instant builds and then they are gone.  Its also why they take way fewer turns to make now.

Like with most 4x / Grand strategy games you kind of have to keep playing them to get understand them. Reading up on them is hard to understand unless you know the mechanics involved with the game. The best thing I would say is to watch some beginner vids about it and lower the difficulty.
