Seeing the picture of her smiling with her long hair is absolutely heartbreaking. I cannot/will not watch that video but I understand why it’s there, to hopefully spread the message that ritualistic hair cutting/head shaving/public abuse shit is not ok and potentially very harmful. You’re not a “cool dad” because you

I understand, that’s why I asked what she did that was so awful. No matter what it was cutting all her hair off isn’t going to help. For Christ’s sake, that’s what the French did to women who were fraternizing with the Nazis during WWII.

God, this makes me feel physically ill. My own father shamed one of my sisters by hacking off her hair — this was a long, long time ago. I can only imagine what he may have done had there been social media back then. That’s why I didn’t laugh along at those videos of the little boys getting the “old man” haircuts.

13yr olds can do a heck of a lot more than that... sneaking out, smoking cigarette’s, drinking, smoking weed, stealing, having sex, skipping school, getting pregnant....

Just gotta say for the people commenting on my post “what if she was a bad kid” and “13 is not a baby” can you do one thing for me and fuck right the hell off?

Hope all those parents that posted on Facebook to shame their kids have this story posted on their timeline.

And if an offense too serious for a grounding or loss of privileges, maybe the kid needs professional help, not abusive treatment.

Seriously! Once, I lied to my mother, and my punishment was washing the dishes for a week. Sane parenting: it’s not that hard!

Yeah, nonconsensual hair-cutting as punishment strikes me as really creepy—an assault on the kid’s bodily integrity. I think it creeps me out as much as if he’d pulled her clothes off or something.

Waiting for the chorus of zealot parents who say we’re too soft on our kids and they should know their bad actions have consequences in 3...2...1

Public shaming videos are just gross. And the people who make them are gross.

If she had other issues then something like that might have tipped her over the edge.

Cutting off people’s hair to shame them was also a common tactic of both Nazis and Stalin era Russians, generally against those deemed too enamored with outside culture. So you know. If it’s good enough for extreme regimes, sounds like a great parenting technique.

I feel hated most of the time im in school i feel looked down on and i get judged alot....

Public shaming is a form of abuse.

Do we know what she supposedly did that caused the “public shaming”?

As far as publicly shaming her father? I think that's been taken care of.

Awful. Cutting all her hair off as punishment is child abuse. There are better ways to get your point across. The poor girl.

I’m sure she “messed up” by having sex or smoking a joint with some friends, and good ol’ dad handled it like the child he is. Now he get to live with the fact that his immaturity drove his own kid to suicide.

Ugh, how can someone be so cruel.
