Now playing

I’ve loved his cutaways since I was a kid (I think they appeared in Car & Driver, but maybe it was Road and Track). There’s a video about him called Into the Wilderness. Using that, I figured out where his shop is and have driven by on the way back to LA from business trips to the Central Valley, hoping to spot him

Wow, people are dicks.

To me it’s also stupid, because it was more than just the cars back then. It was the culture, it was friends, it was racing in the middle of the night, all night, like a bunch of idiots.

Sorry, but your personal preference doesn’t override empirical evidence. The cars are going up and the only explanation for it is nostalgia (which is the one constant factor in car collecting). I was also born in 1980 and, while I did grow up in SoCal, I would bet you all kinds of money that the guys who actually

Looks to be the same car.

This needs more stars to counter the armchair mechanics/appraisers. The fact that this car, with all this work and a windows-out paint job is a 60% CP is mind-blowing.

You can title it. You just can’t register it in CA (unless you get the missing component for the BAR inspection). You’re good to go everywhere else.

Google Auto Kennel. They aren’t withholding the VIN to prevent the car’s history from being discovered.

Not to mention a windows-out repaint, which this car had.

Right, all their cars are dogs. Did you even go to their website to see what else Auto Kennel has in their inventory?

Depends on the state. In California, plates stay with the car for life (no matter who owns it) unless 1) the owner decides to get new plates, 2) the car runs through an auction, is totaled, etc. This is why you’ll find so many California cars on their original black, blue, Sunset or even yellow plates.

It’s not a DD, but I decided to drive it today instead of the Mk6 GTI. After driving the 993, the clutch in the GTI feels broken for the first couple of minutes :P.

This one.

This a-hole made me sit in rush hour traffic in a black air-cooled 911 in direct sunlight with no air-conditioning and a heavy clutch. I want to murder him.

Do you mean just swapping in the drive train? That seems a lot simpler and has been done several times (including by the factory):P.

If you guys find this interesting, you may want to visit the gun-toter’s website (Liberty Hangout), where she has written such gems as “Repeal Child Labor Laws Because Child Labor Should Be a Personal Choice.”

I will echo the benefits of a PPI. Just last week, I very nearly bought a 997.1. Specifically, this 997.1:

I will note, for the record, that the 5 story Soviet building I lived in had a couple of balconies collapse before we left in 1989 :P.

Any of that blue long hood 911/912 behind it?
