As far as timeless classics go the design of a 1994-1996 Chevy Impala SS remains modern looking even today. This is quite the achievement for GM since most of their cars look outdated almost as soon as they roll off the assembly line.
On the first glimpse, they look similar, but imho is the 130 sedan looking much bigger and more rounded and baroque than the Lada. For going the 'Surely it is just a Lada' route I'd go for the last versions of the 124 with 95hp and discs all-round. They'd drive circles at any Lada Nova.

You don't need salt or plows to drive through a couple inches of snow on top of ice. That's basically been my commute every other day for the past few weeks. You just drive slower, increase gaps and brake early.
The fundamental issue to me, as a fellow Southerner, is that the local gov'ts KNEW it was gonna snow/freezecrap. And yet...and yet they opened the schools. And city offices etc. Absurd. They didn't learn anything from the last freezecrap event...nothing.
