Exactly. It’s not about impressing neighbors. I love used cars and i love oldold bmws. There are plenty of them on the road with 200k+ miles. I have an e39 540i, 14 yrs old and it cost me less than a new base level nissan versa. If you’re not afraid of getting your hands dirty an older bmw is an unbelievable value.

Exactly. We have three kids under 6. My wife drives a flex and i had a focus st before trading it in for an e39 540i. A midsize sedan or a decent sized hatch is plenty big as a second car with two or three kids. We like to have one larger car for the occasional family trip but 90% of the time we’re rolling in the e39.

I deeply believe warranties are for suckers. Obvioulsy the companies make money on them. They’re not selling them because they are a good deal for consumers. Despite the DeMuro contingent, over time, there’s just no way you come out ahead. Maybe on one specific car/other purchase, but not over time.

“the estimate was from a BMW dealer.”

I did. I got rid of my less than 2-year-old Focus ST for a 2003 BMW 540i msport. Yes somewhat inspired by Tavarish. I had absolutely zero issues with the Focus and by any reasonable measure it was a great car, but I didn’t LOVE it. As a 35 year old with three small kids I always felt a bit childish in the ST.
