It was explained to me that removing the dastar (turban) feels almost like nudity. Imagine being asked to remove your pants in public for some random reason.
Yes, as an article of faith, they’re required to not cut their hair and for the men to wrap their hair up in a dastar. Telling them to take their headgear off would be like telling a Christian nun to remove her wimple or telling a priest to remove his collar. Only even more so because this stuff is actually referenced…
