I don’t get the blanket outrage for people being landlords. Are they good landlords? Do they take care of the property? Do they offer reasonable rental rates comparable to similar properties? Do they keep rent increases limited? Then what’s the problem with making an investment that provides a decent place to live?…
My niece rents from a landlord who is property rich and has a limited income. He has told her he’s sorry she and her husband have both been laid off however the rent is still due.
“it should be easily agreed upon that accumulating rental profit from the wages of people likely making far, far less than you is at best a tad questionable.”
Probably because so much of what passes for being progressive online is taking ideologically sexy but wildly unrealistic positions and then shitting all over people who don’t match those positions 100%
WTF
“They’re going to waive the rent for the month of April”
I’m not sure if Joan is attempting to be an agent provocateur or if she truly believes it’s wrong for anyone to own property and charge rent. Nevertheless, I don’t think we can all agree that accumulating rental profit from the wages of people likely making far, far less than you is at best a tad questionable.
Yeah I thought that was really weird to have here. They took the step when so many corporate landlords aren’t doing shit. Like why are they being called out here?
I’m with you on this completely, it seems Zack just wanted to see Picard potter about chatting to the old crew and maybe having the odd adventure, and claims that’s what the series promised to be, but I don’t think that’s true at all and the trailer made it out to be a very different beast.
I can’t say I’m surprised I…
I guess part of the reason I’m enjoying this more than most is I didn’t go into it feeling like I was promised ‘a visit with old friends’. I knew there would be nostalgia and fan service, yes, and it is very effective as this episode shows. But what I was expecting, and wanting, was a new story in the Trek universe -…
I would love to believe that our Elliot was born with the Hello Friend opening speech of the first episode. That those were his first words.
I disagree. As children we’re all taught there are consequences for our behavior, but the richer you get, the less that is the case. You can act however you want and face almost no consequences.
To think, until now I only avoided Razer products because they are overpriced glossy garbage. Now I have Reason #2!
Well, he’s not American, he’s Singaporean, and his crap attitude is typical of the management culture in the tech industry there more broadly. Managers at Creative are also famous for being assholes in precisely the same way. I legitimately wouldn’t be surprised if he has them on his resume- Creative has a horrid…
That guy sounds like a huge asshole. Jesus
It’s almost like you have to be an abusive sociopath to be a CEO in modern capitalistic societies.
Absolutely. I used to buy cheap gray office chairs at office Depot or whatever for years (I moved a lot). After 6 months or so, they were all broken in some way, or creaky or uncomfortable or whatever. Bought a big DxRacer chair 4 years ago. It’s held up every day and is super comfortable. I use a Herman Miller at…
*flips back a few pages to choose the other option*
The way this reads reminds me of the bad endings of the old Choose Your Own Adventures books.
Eventually you play for hours on end as the comfort of the chair allows you to play for far longer than in a normal chair. You sink in its folds as it envelopes you. The neck brace is your neck. The backrest becomes a permanent vertebrae. You become an amorphous blob, effortlessly transitioning between chair and…
