A HUGE and SINCERE thanks Jalops! We really appreciate your kind words and everything you’ve done for us over the years and all you’ve done to help save us in the last week...it’s been a whirlwind.

Oppo was my ‘home’ online...I check it many times a day, not just for the car content, but also for the camaraderie and

Farewell.

When someone makes an Oppo post, they are required to credit every photo just like articles on the front page. There’s no valid concern over their usage.

And yet they’ll continue on with all the absolute garbage over on The Root?  WTF?

I think Kinja as a publishing platform is way more fraught than Kinja as a commenting platform for the concerns they’re stating.

This site is finished if they kill off the comments. Can you imagine WCSYB without all of us in the cheap seats throwing our suggestions into the ring? Both it and NP or ND need the comments to keep everyone engaged and coming back. A story with 300+ comments generates a shit load of clicks.

We’re not profiting of anything posted on Oppo or Hyphen, so we have a stronger defense against property theft litigation.

As long as they follow the DMCA takedown rules, they have zero liability for copyright infringement by users under the safe harbor provision (of course people can still sue you, even if they can’t win). More recently there have been concerns about the FCC possibly reinterpreting section 230 of the Communications

The fact that they don’t seem to be willing to fix - or even to reply to for that matter - any of the Safari-based Kinja issues I’ve reported, I’m wondering how long any of these sites will continue to indulge their commentariats. Which is of course the edgy, against-the-grain thinking you’d expect from Herbs.

Honestly, this sounds like an excuse to cover for something else going on behind the scenes of the executive suites. I mean who’s going to be left from the readership to accidentally click on all the intrusive advertisements once the subspheres of the Kinjaverse disappears?!

So you Jalops realize just how solid of a dude you have at the helm, on the day this news became known, Rory took notice of a comment I’d made asking the editors to help us save OPPO and replied asking me to email him. A few hours later he called me and we had a long conversation about how much we both cared about the

I’ve said essentially this in so many obituary threads this past week, but, aside from just reiterating that this is some bullshit, let me also reiterate that Oppo is unique among communities, in the best ways.

Oh they absolutely are. Oh well, off to a different site. If management prefers to get rid of the carefully cultivated facets of the Kinja platform that make G/O sites popular and turn those sites into run of the mill garbage platforms, that’s their decision.

I’ve been active on Oppo for the past 4 years. I’ll definitly miss it, but all good things must come to an end. The people I’ve met from it(mostly Toronto ones), the few meet ups I’ve gone too. It has changed my life in some ways. Kinja Oppo may die, but there are some alternates that are already doing well. The

This made me very sad to read, as a community we really appreciate the kind words though. We’d love nothing more than to stay here an active part of Jalopnik.

Long live OPPO, indeed.

So sad.

Oppo is dead. Long live Oppo.
