Amazing the stuff that sticks with you ten years later, isn’t it?

Hey KFC, make the Eleven Herbs and Space Experience real!
I’m not in the market for a new (to me) car right now, and it’s the entire way across the country, but yeah, I like it!
RTFA, Accelerated Bridge Construction had nothing to do with the collapse:
Sure, but then you’ve got to close the road while they’re delivering the parts, then close it for longer while they’re hoisted and assembled. Using ABC on the other hand means you only need to close while they move and lift, a much shorter length of time.
AV Club is blocked at work (but not any of the other Gawkmodo sites, which is odd...), so I haven’t been there in yonks. How badly mangled is it?
Who makes the deals to get a factory built in a certain location and deciding how much money to spend? That’s the CEO’s role. Who holds meetings with stakeholders to get updates on the status of the factory’s construction? That’s the COO’s role. HR, accounting, security, facilities, supply chain? COO. Product design,…
Elon didn’t “personally” change dick. SpaceX, with thousands of actually talented people and Gwynn Shotwell at the helm did all those things. Elon probably couldn’t build an Estes rocket without it tipping over sideways or winding up in a tree.
Probably shouldn’t have been pushing to restart before he was ready then.
SpaceX is doing this at Boca because they know there’s going to be issues, and destroying easily rebuilt facilities is better than blowing up Cape Canaveral. Also, they’re trying to figure out how to build Starships as cheaply and as quickly as possible, similar to traditional shipbuilding, so somewhat austere…
Can’t ignore what has yet to be provided. I have yet to see evidence that Musk knows the subject matter (beyond “Wouldn’t it be cool if...”, at any rate), or that he’s a good manager. The fact that Gwynne Shotwell is actually running SpaceX, which is doing well as opposed to Tesla, doesn’t speak well for the latter or …
The BFR is completely different— Musk has clearly dictated important design decisions, including the use of structural elements in stainless, which seem to be not working out great. It’s not unusual to have rocket motors blow up on the test stand. IN this century it is unusual to have complete structural failures, of…
Sigh. Hey guys, instead of fucking up the site with idiot formatting changes, maybe try and get the image upload to work right first so comments don’t look like ass?
Looking at the overhead shots:
They’re also doing this for bridges, under the acronym ABC (accelerated bridge construction). It’s easier, cheaper and less disruptive to traffic if you build the bridge off-site or near-site, then have it trucked and lifted into place.
Eh, I’ll give SpaceX a pass on the Starship Follies. Shotwell’s running that show, and honestly the fireworks aren’t that surprising. NASA’s got their own blooper reel of detonating rockets, after all
Eh, the first half of your statement is true, maybe, but I’d bet dollars to donuts he hasn’t been on the line since his last photo-op.
