As an American who got into Blur late (just a little bit before their first reunion, actually), I found the Britpop stuff kind of mind-blowing.

I always get Tom Waits and Ron Perlman confused when I see them in movies… both tend to take interesting, slightly out-there roles, both have a kind of "big guy with a heart" thing going for them, and both have fucking great voices.

Only if "visceral" goes with it.

Yeah, it was weird to be able to see under the table.

I thought Luhrmann's style was a nice fit for the first half of the movie, but I kept waiting for reality to set in during the second half, and it never did. I think it would have been very effective if the film slowly transitioned into a more stark, "gritty" (for lack of a better word) approach as Gatsby's dream
