Hey, I actually really liked Nothing But The Truth.  At that point in my life, the idea of a book written in a documentary-style was the coolest thing ever.

God, I used to read so much Bruce Coville.  And I was one of those kids that didn't like books written "for my age group."  They were the kind of goofy fun I could get into.

I was in a Sunday School before Kindergarten so the moral code stuck with me for a long time, even if the actual religion-part didn't.  I don't really remember any one piece of media "expanding my mind," as it were.  I think I just appreciated the clarity of logical thought provided by people like Stephen Fry.
