@KinoEscalate: I think a key feature of any Facebook phone would be the ability to run Facebook apps. I've never tried any myself but apparently there are 100m people playing that farm one for example, that's a pretty huge audience for game developers.

I'm not a connoisseur of Android devices, what's novel about this hardware versus what's on the market currently?

@Tyrunn: I read your first comment and replied to it, I'm sorry if this is unacceptable to you but that's my prerogative as a commenter. Lesson one.

They've completely lost their minds if they want to switch to a channel model like cable/satellite.

@Tyrunn: Even a casual skim of a site like Gizmodo shows how wrong your assertion is. Google and Microsoft are only the most obvious examples of Apple competitors that inspire fandom in some of their users.

Nice user interface!

@k2001: Just your garden-variety BBS whose roots formed in 1973.

So in other words, a cheap version of scotch and coke.

@meatbag_pussrocket: My dad took his iPad to the Genius Bar because he thought it was deleting his incoming emails. It turns out he was just looking at his trash folder.

@YOUCANNOTDENY: Not really, user IDs could be linked to phone plans so you'd have to have a legit Facebook phone plan/buyer ID to use the Facebook phone.

Are there any interesting widgets? Everything I've seen so far seems like simple lists and stacks.

@justinpe: Fugly actually. I don't know why so many Android released look like the software control panel from a 1995 Taiwanese motherboard.

Sure, why not? There's a lot of overlap between Facebook and the functions of a modern smartphone, like email, IM, contact management, apps and so on.

@mrantimatter: The vast majority of people may not have smartphones phones, but a lot more people have smartphones than portable game units currently, and the number is growing all the time. Just between iOS and Android there are over 500,000 devices being activated every day.

@mrantimatter: No, but I don't think many people choose between a smartphone and a portable gaming system, only whether or not to buy a portable gaming system as well as a smartphone.
