It’s not that big a issue but because for every sword that breaks you’ll probably come across three or four other weapons, even early on. Almost all enemies will drop one and if you sneak up on a camp you should be able to steal a weapon before the enemies even have time to pick one up.

As exploring and trying Shit is a central mechanic, it only makes sense to force you into trying different weapons. It’s like freezing an enemy and pushing him a cliff with the Korok leaf or shooting beams of air with the long katana (drop by the alt-sheik tribe) or decimating bokoblins with the long boomerang.
