99% of the time the engine is a generator for Volt. Only drives the wheels in certain scenarios, such as high road grade. Other Plugin Hybrids use a direct drive when engine kicks on, but not the Volt.

So, as each wheel has a motor, doesnt that mean the 11hp fuel cell acts as a generator for the super caps / electrical system? There is no mention of a battery, so if 11 hp is enough to charge the electrical system, its not directly related to the “power” of the car in a traditional sense. That depends on the motors…
