I get what you’re saying, but it’s still “hot for her age.” And that’s what killed her in that Vegas anecdote (which you noted in another comment). She basically looks exactly the same…but older…when many or most of us also look significantly different/heavier, so it’s the not being young anymore specifically that…

Not retiring would entail remaining in the public eye, which would mean she would continue to be judged for her looks.

I agree with what kitschykat wrote — what many will interpret as unhinged (or uneducated), others will perceive as real and authentic. People like Fox and West know who they are trying to reach and it ain’t us.

Ha! I am late Gen X and I feel you. I am pretty informal in my texts now, but the rare times I post anything (now that I’ve taken most social media off of my phone), I still use grammar and punctuation.

I know that with texts, many linguists have suggested (like Gretchen McCulloch, who wrote Because Internet) that formal punctuation is sometimes seen as pretentious and/or a marker of one’s age.
