Tesla already owns production lines with all the systems you're claiming they're avoiding. Your argument fails both the smell test and any application of Occam's Razor.

We’ve had customers get pretty miserable fuel economy running regular in cars that recommend premium. The cost increase is negated be the increase in fuel economy. Also, Premium gas usually has no ethanol, which isn’t great for o rings and seals in the fuel system.

Have any of the above stuffed a GM press car into a barrier? 

And raise gas taxes a bunch. Then use the money to fix the roads and create more mass transit.
