It’s about new car sales. People may not pre-emptively dump their SUVs for economy cars, but if there’s even a 20% shift in cars from SUVs to sedans, companies that rely heavily on SUVs will suddenly see a lot less revenue.

I’ve sat in a couple new Continentals. While they have some nice touches, they still have the same problem Cadillac has. I never drove sealed beams, but the jump between Halogen & Xenon was far greater than the jump from Xenon to LED. In many cases, LED headlights perform worse than their HID counterparts and at best throw out a bit more light. The bigger gains are in efficiency and more flexible headlight design.
