What the diff between the Vette and the Golf/GTI? I personally am not a fan, but I can see why people think they look cool. They’re both basically the same thing. Who cares if it “looks” like a race car? They’re both useless visual mods.

The professor has zero chill. College students are disrespectful in class? I remember in college people would wear flannel pajamas, sleep on the floor, and put their feet up all the time. I’ve never seen that been an issue for any professor. Even if a student deserved some type of punishment, who calls the police?
The best thing to do is to keep your cool. The baggage people who work the counters did not lose your luggage. Most likely, not even the people at the airport you’ve arrived at had anything to do with losing your luggage. Also, getting in a hissy fit will accomplish nothing and make things tougher for everyone…
People like you make people not want to do anything. taking even a small step forward is much better than running backwards.
Have you driven a modern ZF 8HP? In sport mode or in cars like the m5, the shifts are extremely crisp. Like, professional drivers and reviewers claim they would have thought it was a DCT if they didn’t know it wasn’t. The torque converter lockup stays engaged during shifts. That means there can be no “wooly” feeling.
The current M3 and the future M3 will be available in a manual. Of course they have one available that can handle the torque of the new B58.
I’m not trying to say BMW is Toyota. But no carmaker is perfect. Even Toyota has some issues. I’m just saying it’s pretty hyperbolic to say that BMWs die before they hit 100k miles.
If I told you BMW wasn’t actually losing money on manuals, and that they only reason they cut them is so they could save a little bit more money, would you feel differently? BMW concentrates on “take rate” which means they don’t care if they always sell 5,000 manual cars per year which is plenty to make money on. All…
F1 cars have automatics because it’s a race car. Its sole purpose is to go fast, not to give the driver a sense of fun. F1 cars also don’t have stereos but I doubt even the staunchest enthusiast would forgo that in a street car. The Demon is only offered with an automatic because it’s a street legal drag car. Very few…
Horsepower is the ultimate measure of a car’s ability to go fast. A car with a lot of low-end torque will be easier to accelerate since it doesn’t have to spin up super fast to start making a lot of power. But ultimately, a car’s acceleration is determined by area under the POWER curve.
All automatics these days have a manual mode. I absolutely have driven all transmission types. Except for a bit of roughness at slow driving, the DCT acts just like any other automatic.
A dual clutch IS an automatic. WTF? You put it in gear and you press one pedal to go. That’s it.
I’ve been reading all the G20 news as it’s come out, and I agree with you. I hate the angled gauge cluster shape. What’s most infuriating is that the tachometer spins counter clockwise.
These days, you really have to try to kill any car, much less a BMW, before it hits 100k miles. Cars with a lot of issues like N54 equipped cars were given extended warranties on all their commonly defective parts.
Sod off. I say that not because you don’t like manuals. That’s fine, of course. It’s the fact that you need to tell others what is better or not. If I want a manual, I should be able to raise a stink to one of the largest companies in the world if I want to. I’ve been a loyal customer and have purchased several manual…
Uh why DCT? No point offering a DCT when the ZF 8HP is superior in almost every way except for imperceptibly faster shift times. If you’re going to offer two transmissions, it should be ZF 8HP and 6 speed manual. DCT is an automatic transmission that works slightly differently to a planetary gearbox, that’s it. To the…
No one pretends the manual is “superior” technically. That’s a straw man argument if I ever heard one. It’s all about driving engagement and feel. When you drive an automatic, it’s immediately more boring that the same car with a manual. If all you care about are performance times, then I have to assume you primarily…
If that’s all it is, I feel like BMW would do it. They will surely sell at least 500 manual 3 series. Probably a lot more. Who knows though. If that’s why BMW is not offering a manual, a “measly” $1M for testing, then I would be infuriated. BMW would definitely make that much money back considering they already…
A large part of BMW’s success is the image they’ve built up over the years. This image included being a media darling and being highly rated by car magazines. And what do auto journalists like? They like cars with manuals and good steering feedback. With all the bad press they’ve been getting lately, they have…
I’ve bought, Infiniti, Chevy, BMWs all new with manuals over the past 7 years. Do I get to complain?
